Definitions

Reuse
Repeated use of a product without modifying its properties on the construction site or in another project.

Example: Reuse of insulating panels for a new construction.

Recycling
Use of secondary material within the same manufacturing process from which it is derived in order to replace an original resource of similar nature, or introduction of secondary material into a production cycle different than the one from which it is derived.

Example: Concrete is crushed and reused as filling material.

Energy Recovery
Recovery of the energy contained in the chemical bonds through transformation of secondary material.

Example: Wood pieces reduced to wood chips and used as combustion product.

Disposal
Disposition of resource so that it is not used as secondary material.

Example: Disposal in a landfill of asbestos.
